HALF TIDE is a live audio collage performance with two players each using distinct source material. The first player pulls from 1950s exotica. The second works with a more recent approach to sonic fiction - video game audio. Both players represent different eras of fantasy. In what ways might they relate to each other when they are juxtaposed?
The 30 minute performance pitts two conflicting dreams against each other - a disingenuous attempt at creating a novel paradise & grainy journeys through endless levels, loading screens and depleting health. The recording formats already create an evident contrast, which will be manipulated using improvised effects, layering, looping, pitching and reversing. Each section of this piece will last for no longer than 2.5 minutes, encouraging decisive and imperfect action.
When combined, there is a potential for ambiguity, contrast, humour & subversion. Particularly during moments where snippets of dialogue & foley find their way in.
Accompanying the performance, there will also be a fantastic powerpoint presentation, showing images of dream products, sun-bleached gloss and interventions from the 5D cosmos.
